Edward James Olmos

Edward James Olmos, originally uploaded by epsilonminus.

So, this was as close as I got to Edward James Olmos, after I discovered he was charging $60 for autographs and photos (probably OR photos, fuck, who knows). I know Battlestar Galactica’s a big deal lately, but I still think $60 is incredibly goddamned unreasonable and disproportionate for a guy who, much as I like him, hasn’t done THAT much of note. For comparison, Wes Craven (who I’m not interested in personally, but is inarguably a much bigger deal than Olmos) was charging $40.

So, I couldn’t justify $60 to myself to have the actor behind one of the smallest speaking roles in Blade Runner sign the set. If it was Ridley Scott, or Harrison Ford, or shit, even Douglas Trumbull, I’d have maybe gone for it, although I’d still be grumbling about it.

I paid $30 for the Tobe Hooper autograph/shot (which is a little regrettable in retrospect, as upon rewatching the DVD on an HDTV for the first time, I realized it’s non-anamorphic and a terrible transfer and my $30 probably entitled me to one of the 2-disc re-releases at the table), and felt a little robbed even by that, but fuck it, I brought a bag full of stuff, I was gonna get SOMETHING signed, and I’m much more into directors than actors, so Hooper got the bucks. I’m not really enough of a starfucker to be paying for autographs at all, I really find the idea of it pretty distasteful, but what do I know, I’m not a rich & famous person being forced to slum with comic book nerds, I am not qualified to put a pricetag on the indignity of interacting with nerds and writing a name.

Hell yeah, I’m bitter about my naked Blade Runner set, what of it?

Edit: Word on the street is that Aaron Douglas (Tyrol on BSG, late replacement on Sunday for the cancelled Jamie Bamber appearance) declined to charge for autographs and had a donation box out for the Canadian Cancer Society instead. Good for him, he deserves major props for that, since every other major guest was lining their pockets with $25 minimum, and with his co-star getting crazy greedy.

NIKON DX VR 55-200 F4-5.6G IF-ED

Slightly belated birthday gift to myself, copped with a recent fatty bonus, in honour of my ongoing neglect of music in favour of all my other half-assed creative pursuits. (I am still working on Chester Fantastico, but am waiting on some remixes before taking new steps)

I will have many pictures of nerds tomorrow, as I’m attending the FanExpo with m’lady, and doing my damndest to have Edward James Olmos sign my Blade Runner box set.
